Inés obedeció las órdenes, pero no pudo evitar guardar una copia de la última transmisión en un disco externo que escondió en el cajón de su escritorio.
Inés obeyed the orders, but she could not help keeping a copy of the last transmission on an external disk that she hid in the drawer of her desk.
Sabía que habría consecuencias si alguien lo descubría.
She knew there would be consequences if someone discovered it.
Aun así, sentía que aquellos recuerdos le pertenecían.
Even so, she felt that those memories belonged to her.

Esta vez no contenía recuerdos del pasado, sino imágenes de algo que todavía no había sucedido: Inés se veía a sí misma, mucho más vieja, de pie en una playa que no reconocía, bajo un cielo con dos soles.
This time it did not contain memories of the past, but images of something that had not yet happened: Inés saw herself, much older, standing on a beach she did not recognise, beneath a sky with two suns.
Y sonreía.
And she was smiling.
Inés cerró el ordenador con las manos temblorosas.
Inés closed the computer with trembling hands.
Si el satélite le estaba mostrando su futuro, significaba que la humanidad habría llegado algún día a las estrellas.
If the satellite was showing her her future, it meant that humanity would have reached the stars one day.
Y si ella aparecía en aquella visión, quizás fuese porque el universo ya la había elegido para ser la primera en cruzar el umbral.
And if she appeared in that vision, perhaps it was because the universe had already chosen her to be the first to cross the threshold.
Se preguntó si habría tenido el valor de aceptar, de no haber visto aquella sonrisa en su propio rostro.
She wondered whether she would have had the courage to accept, had she not seen that smile on her own face.
