El Domingo de la Abuela
(Grandma's Sunday)
Todos los domingos, Carmen iba a casa de su abuela en Córdoba.
Every Sunday, Carmen went to her grandmother's house in Córdoba.
Su abuela se llamaba Paquita y tenía ochenta y dos años.
Her grandmother was called Paquita and she was eighty-two years old.
Paquita se levantaba temprano y preparaba una comida enorme.
Paquita got up early and prepared an enormous meal.

One Sunday, Carmen arrived and the kitchen was empty.

There was no food on the table.
Encontró a su abuela en el jardín, sentada al sol con un libro.
She found her grandmother in the garden, sitting in the sun with a book.
Paquita dijo: <<Hoy no quiero cocinar.
Paquita said: <<Today I do not want to cook.
Quiero leer mi novela.>> Carmen se sorprendió mucho.
I want to read my novel.>> Carmen was very surprised.
En cuarenta años, su abuela siempre había cocinado los domingos.
In forty years, her grandmother had always cooked on Sundays.
Carmen sonrió y dijo: <<Entonces hoy cocino yo.>> Fue a la cocina e intentó hacer una tortilla.
Carmen smiled and said: <<Then today I will cook.>> She went to the kitchen and tried to make an omelette.
La tortilla se rompió y el gazpacho tenía demasiada sal.
The omelette broke and the gazpacho had too much salt.
Pero Paquita se comió todo y dijo: <<Está delicioso.>> Carmen sabía que no era verdad, pero abrazó a su abuela.
But Paquita ate everything and said: <<It is delicious.>> Carmen knew it was not true, but she hugged her grandmother.
Desde ese día, cocinaban juntas los domingos.
From that day on, they cooked together on Sundays.
