(The Photograph That Lied)

El fotógrafo, Andrés Vidal, se había hecho famoso por capturar instantes reales en la calle: un beso en un semáforo, una pelea entre palomas, una anciana bailando sola en una plaza.
The photographer, Andres Vidal, had become famous for capturing real instants in the street: a kiss at a traffic light, a fight between pigeons, an old woman dancing alone in a square.

She had never walked down that street.
Y sin embargo, la mujer de la foto era indiscutiblemente ella: su cara, su pelo, la forma exacta en que inclinaba la cabeza cuando pensaba.
And yet, the woman in the photo was indisputably her: her face, her hair, the exact way in which she tilted her head when she was thinking.
Buscó al fotógrafo y lo encontró en la última sala, hablando con periodistas.
She looked for the photographer and found him in the last room, talking to journalists.
Le mostró la foto y le dijo: Esa soy yo, pero ese momento no existió.
She showed him the photo and said: That is me, but that moment did not exist.
Andrés la miró sin sorprenderse.

She did not know whether to feel flattered or frightened.

That man had photographed something that had not happened, and yet, looking at it, she felt that it was the most honest version of herself she had ever seen.
