(The House That Remembered)
Cuando Marta heredó la casa de su tía abuela en un pueblo de Asturias, pensó que sería una oportunidad perfecta para alejarse de Madrid durante el verano.
When Marta inherited the house from her great-aunt in a village in Asturias, she thought it would be a perfect opportunity to get away from Madrid during the summer.
La casa había sido construida en mil ochocientos noventa y no había sido habitada desde que su tía abuela murió hacía tres años.
The house had been built in eighteen ninety and had not been inhabited since her great-aunt died three years ago.
Los vecinos le advirtieron que el tejado probablemente necesitaría reparaciones y que las tuberías habrían sufrido daños por el frío.

Marta limpió las habitaciones, abrió las ventanas y dejó que el aire fresco del valle llenara la casa.
Marta cleaned the rooms, opened the windows and let the fresh valley air fill the house.
Pero la segunda semana, empezaron las cosas extrañas.
But the second week, strange things began.
Una noche se despertó y encontró todas las puertas del piso superior abiertas de par en par, aunque ella las había cerrado antes de acostarse.
One night she woke up and found all the doors on the upper floor wide open, even though she had closed them before going to bed.

On the bathroom mirror on the first floor, someone had written with their finger in the condensation: <<Welcome home, Marta>>.
El problema era que hacía semanas que nadie usaba agua caliente en aquella habitación.
The problem was that nobody had used hot water in that room for weeks.
Esa noche, Marta encontró un diario viejo de su tía abuela en un cajón de la cómoda.
That night, Marta found an old diary of her great-aunt in a chest of drawers.
En las últimas páginas, escritas con una letra temblorosa, su tía había anotado: <<La casa me conoce.
On the last pages, written in shaky handwriting, her aunt had noted: <<The house knows me.
Sabe cuándo estoy triste y cuándo estoy contenta.
It knows when I am sad and when I am happy.
Creo que la casa recuerda a todas las personas que han vivido aquí.

Marta turned off the light and went up the stairs without looking back.
